Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) has collected and preserved artifacts and stories of a rich maritime heritage from the Santa Barbara Channel. Our last ice age 13,000 years ago allowed for the first exploration and discovery of the Americas with a large migration of people from Asia. Some started settling here and over the millennia evolved into a successful enterprising society called the Chumash. Centuries later more societies will have discovered the unique value the Channel provides. Visiting SBMM will show you all the victories and tragedies placed on humankind in their quest to reap the benefits of this newly charted territory.
